AFIK It's not officially supported. I wonder if it is a Vista Ultimate
"Gadget" that was never finished.
Actually, it represents a feature that has been built into the code who
knows how long, but it was inaccessible until this unofficial hack was
published. It is one example of functional code that is sitting around
doing nothing but wasting resources. And it (they) also represent potential
hacking holes (vulnerabilities). A couple of months back I read about one
in Win7. They had built in WiFi functionality, but not a user interface.
Someone, outside of MS knew about it and built a little application that
hooked into it, tada, a new unofficial feature. But, it just as easily have
been a hacker installed feature that turned your machine into unsecured
hotspot without your knowledge, exposing your files in the process.
I guess since it is not officially supported it is "easter eggish", but
originally easter eggs were there to show how smart the programmers were.
There are no programmer "credits" displayed (that I saw), so being a nit
picker personally I wouldn't call it an easter egg.
This little feature displays one of my pet peeves with the Windows
Registry. The intelligible text label is irrelevant, only those incredibly
long, unreadable alphabet soup nonsense names inside the braces are
significant to the registry.
