[Word] Default Type face and font

I know this is from an old thread, but I'm just catching up on my
reading <g>.
I'm using Word 2003/Windows XP. Bonnie's suggestion does not work for
me. If I select a block of text and choose Default ..., the dialog box
says "Do you want to change the default font to (Default) Calibri? This
change will affect all new documents based on the NORMAL template".
Responding YES means that:
(a) the font for the selected block of text is *not *changed to
Calibri -- that does not make sense to me (it is changed, of course, if
the Default button is not used); and
(b) although closing the document produces a message that normal.dot
is being saved, when Word is reopened, the default font has not changed
-- but it appears to have worked for Bonnie.
Is there something that I'm missing?
